Congress Govt….? Zzzzz…

November 3, 2009 Ambi Leave a comment

Wake up, you morons!! You fools are squabbling over which portfolios to give to which party, when other countries playing ‘inky, pinky, ponky’ on our country’s lands for choosing which one to take.

Do you see Kashmir or Arunachal Pradesh in India? This map is found in some place in China.

Meddling with nature

October 15, 2009 Ambi Leave a comment

THIS is a clear case of how economic opportunism drives every so called innovation. It MUST be made mandatory to label GM foods to distinguish them from normal products. Personally, I would never touch anything of these things if they are put up for sale in the market.

It’s a shame that corporate well being is put ahead of well being of the people.

You can find more information on Greenpeace’s website here.

1) DMK fools are up to it again. These people will never improve… including their grand old man, who has given a new definition to ‘family politics’!

2) Our fellow citizens chew too much paan. There is even one called ‘Honeymoon special’ costing Rs.100 with ‘chittu kuruvi lehiyam’ (no clue on what it is actually, but claimed to be an aphrodisiac… ). *Quack warning*

3) There are too many ’swamijis’ around. Those who want to get cheated, get cheated.

4) Too much of ‘light’ pollution… its been some years since I had a clear view of starry sky at night.

5) Too many people dig their nose and fart in public. The look on their face when ‘discovered’ is, well… I will leave at that. Nasty.

Sach ka saamna?

Our people have no originality. Even in cooking up reality shows, they need to ‘emulate’ their western ‘buddy’ networks.

Never seen this show on TV as such, but from what I hear, it sounds more like the Maury show or Jerry Springer shown across US networks… may be a bit more dignified in staging than the above, but yuck, nonetheless.

A poser to those who wish to come on the show:

Why not just let skeletons in the closet be just that and move on with your life? The temptation of money, even if it amounts to the risk of admitting your dark secrets and destroy a couple more lives, is too strong to resist, is it?

*chuckle* (you know why I am chuckling here! Don’t act as if you don’t!)

Here’s the link to the article. Al-Qaida ‘number two urges’…hehe!

“(If) we stand by passively without offering due support to the mujahedeen, we shall not only contribute to the destruction of Pakistan and Afghanistan, but we shall also deserve the painful punishment of Almighty Allah.”

Trying to get support for one’s religious views by using fear… What a shame!

Taliban vs. Pakistan

May 28, 2009 Ambi 1 comment

Looks like the ISI is getting a dose of its own medicine!

I have nothing against the Muslim brethren in general… but these Taliban guys… I wish some bloody leader in Pakistan with a some amount of backbone says ‘enough is enough’ and destroys this group with a resolve that the LTTE  was destroyed as a terrorist group by the Sri Lankan army.

45% of the world’s wealth destroyed

March 11, 2009 Ambi 2 comments

Or so this article quotes the CEO of Blackstone

Wealth? What wealth? Minted paper and psychologically enhanced ‘value’ is now being called wealth!!!

Who can say what is the actual WORTH of a square feet of land?

What use is ‘paper’ money, if you can keep printing ‘$2,000,000′ notes and you need just one to buy a loaf of bread? (don’t know what I am talking about? Check on Zimbabwe’s economic condition in Google).

Who does care or even know about actual wealth these days?

Its funny and sad that we churn out a zillion MBAs and PhDs every year and yet we cannot answer the simplest of questions without using some hi-fi jargon.

Whatever happened to separation of church and politics…?

March 11, 2009 Ambi 1 comment

or Mutt and politics, or Mosque and politics… whatever. But this article shows how absurd our ’secular’ philosophy is.

One person has commented as follows:

Shame Shame on all who donot support BJP. A priest of a church can ask his followers to vote in the name of christ and a maulana can ask in the name of allah, but a sadhu cannot ask vote in the name of Ram!!! CPM, LJP, Congress, RJD can ask for votes to muslims and christains in the name of islam and christainity and become so called secular. When BJP asks for votes in the name of HINDUS, they are non secular!!!

I find it hard to refute his logic.

Yet for all the subtleties…

February 2, 2009 Ambi Leave a comment

I just got news from home that colleges in TN have been asked to close until Feb 08, 2009.

Reason? Support for Tamil people suffering in Sri Lanka. Absurd. Ridiculous.

The only good thing that comes out of such a decision is a whole lot of students who can really take a break from the drudgery of college working days are very happy.

Seriously… is it real concern for people who are suffering? Or is it veiled, subtle (or may be not so subtle!!) support for LTTE? The photo in this news clipping makes me think it is the latter.

Oh, I forgot to add…

From http://www.telegraphindia.com/1090130/jsp/nation/story_10460494.jsp

“Chennai, Jan. 29: A youth burnt himself to death today to protest the Centre’s alleged failure to save Sri Lankan Tamils, a day after Pranab Mukherjee returned from Colombo.

R. Muthukumaran, a 30-year-old DTP operator with a Tamil magazine run by PMK leader S. Ramadoss’s daughter, set himself ablaze at Shastri Bhavan, a complex of central government offices in the heart of Chennai. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his burns.”

You know what I think? This fellow, for all his admirable tamil spirit, was just plain DUMB. Who knows what indoctrination he was put through to come to such a stupid decision?

Get the hint between the bold parts? Me thinks so!

When it comes to politics, my friends, our politicians are no better than terrorists!

A matter of questions in a bride search

November 2, 2008 Ambi 6 comments

There is one issue which seems to irk so many of the prospective brides and their parents we talk to.

Why did your son come back from USA?

The million dollar question. Why the hell would someone come back to this existence in India from USA? It seems like they consider it to be big sin to come back from USA. Once in USA, stay in USA… that’s their motto.

Well, let me tell ya’all something. The decision to come back was made by ME… I didn’t even consult with my parents. I took the decision and informed them. They didn’t have any problems. So, why on earth would I have to rationalize a decision to a complete stranger, almost two-and-a-half years after I made it?

It should go without saying that the bride search is not going very strong, at least in my opinion. Girls and their parents these days are mostly unpredictable… not to mention the complete lack of courtesy. My uncle from USA was here at my home couple of weeks ago and we were shocked to hear that his colleague had to endure some really, really stupid, yet disturbing questions when he talked to some girl’s parent while searching for a bride for his son. Some of the questions are given below:

1) Would you stay with your son after his marriage? If you would be staying separately, how frequently would you visit him? ( Hint:Its not the family bond they are concerned about.)

2) How much is your net worth? How much will your son inherit?

3) Do you have a hospital near your home? How much insurance do you and your wife have?

Needless to say, the man left the place in shock. The marriage alliance never happened.

… sounds crazy?

Political drama… no, wait. Political BS!

So, Why not resign for the massacres in Somalia? Or Jammu and Kashmir?

Seems like we need to introduce a new term… Tamil Fundamentalism.

Conversion and dignity? WTH?

September 18, 2008 Ambi Leave a comment

“Because they have failed, they are trying miserably hard,” Mathai said, adding, if conversions gave someone respect and dignity, they were not wrong.

Source is here.

For the very fact that he hints that simply converting from one religion to another gives a person respect and dignity, I will have to give Dr. Abraham Mathai a huge thumbs down.

I don’t have any love for the Bajrang Dal or whatever… but to suggest something on the above lines but then carry out conversion based on faith makes the latter a pretense and makes it look like these guys are more interested in scoring political points and number crunching rather than providing any spiritual benefit to the misled (in their opinion, obviously) masses.

Mega Serials, reality shows – mega bullshit, real problem!

August 16, 2008 Ambi 3 comments

I should probably believe that I am not the first one to rant on the domination of mega-serials and reality shows that have taken over “sensible entertainment”.

On Mega serials:

I think almost all of the current tamil mega serials are IDIOTIC, PUTRID, PUKE-WORTHY stories. I mean, who wants to sit through 30mins in front of the TV, watching a woman getting down the stairs for 10 mins, a man rocking a chair for 5 mins… bah, the list goes on. I cannot bear to stand in front of the TV once my mom and dad (yes! you read that right) start staring at the screen glassy eyed. What’s worse? Here…

In the TV, a man:”If you don’t co-operate, I will kill your wife”

Outside TV, my folks: Adi seruppaala… rascal! Ivana mathiri aala yellam suttu thallanam.

Me: (thinking “WTH????”) Its a bloody TV serial!!!! Shut up already!

My folks: You shut up. We are watching TV.

Me: (pulls hair out)

On Reality serials:

Seems like everything is a copy from USA and Hindi channels. They even have a copy of “Takeshi’s castle”, for crying out loud. And I have people watching, slackjawed and all, some poor guy or gal crying on stage. And the dance shows are the worst. I don’t have to explain about flapping flabs, grunting faces and absolutely horrid dance styles and themes in some cases.

Someone rid the airwaves of this nonsense.

Sad state of affairs

Students commiting suicide

News like the one above makes me very, very sad. Committing suicide in fear of exams? What must have driven those young minds to take such terrible, desperate steps? What kind of stress those kids must have been going through before coming to such a disastrous decision? And here we are, complaining about stress at jobs, stress in marriage and what not. We have thousands of crack pot stress relief programs to teach us how to ‘deal’ with stress, effective or not. What do these innocent kids have? Who is to tell them it is alright to have failures in life, leave alone in exams, as long as one doesn’t loses hope? Who is to encourage them to face failure and try again, without denting their confidence and self-esteem?

Education in India is mostly driven by strong emotions of parents who want to see their child ’succeed’ in life. Parents, esp. in India think that hurting their child’s self-esteem by making negative statements about the kids abilities, like comparing their kids with someone else’s, threatening the child with humiliation in event of ‘failure’ (as defined by the parents), will actually make the child want to put in more effort and make the parents proud.

But what does a child know about pride? What does a child know about Indian family politics, where ’status’ is determined by how much one earns and the name of the company he/ she works for?

Statements like

“If you don’t get good marks in the board exams, you will spoil your entire life!”
“All your friends will ridicule you if you don’t study for engineering or MBBS”
“Why don’t you get smart and have only the top rankers in your class as friends?”
“You have to put study efforts for at least 14hrs a day… 8hrs at school, 6hrs at home. If you don’t, you will not get good marks and then you will become worthless!”
“You got only 85% marks!! Miserable wretch! You are only fit to herd pigs!! May be I will get you 50 pigs… no, you won’t be able to do even that!”

don’t actually help a child! These kind of comments blows holes in the child’s confidence like a shotgun firing through a sheet of paper. It breaks the fragile minds, giving them a feeling that no matter how hard they try they will not satisfy expectations. Some also begin to believe that if they ‘fail’ in something, ‘they’ have proven to be worthless.

Instead of giving love and affection, parents end up scorning, beating and sometimes even endangering the child’s future as well as life.

I don’t usually see hindi movies… hardly, actually. But I saw ‘Taare Zameen Par’. Excellent movie. There is one statement in that movie which sums up the solution to problems faced by millions of children (Indian, too) throughout the world.

“Parents should stop burdening their children with the huge weight of their own ambitions.”

I completely agree with it.

Need to get attention?

What a waste of resources and time!
So now that the government has decreed that the pongal day that begins the month of “Thai” will be celebrated as the Tamil New Year, everyone will start doing so? Hardly!!

Only the “Kalaignar TV” channel’s news reporters will be able to find such celebrations. How? Anywhere people celebrate pongal, the idiots will showcase it as if the people are very happy about celebrating New Year!

How this is a contribution to the tamil community is beyond me… since people have been celebrating the first day of Chithirai month as the Tamil New Year without any issues for as long as I have know.

And the article claims “the Tamil scholars showered encomiums”. Who are the scholars? Surely Karuna’s cronies Duraimurugan and Jegatrakshagan don’t count in, do they?

“This, they said, was the renaissance period of Tamil language. “

Oh, oooh… aaahhh, wow! I can hardly breath. I can imagine Avvaiyar, Kambar, Thiruvalluvar etc. praising this old man from the heavens for his great act!
Stupid asses. Attention whoring at its finest, IMO.

Oneness… yeah right!

December 30, 2007 Ambi 9 comments

I don’t read tamil magazines a lot, but for the last couple of months I keep seeing in them advertisements endorsing what I believe to be the most dubious, nonsensical and probably the least appealing ‘divine couple’. Nicknamed as “Amma Bhagavan” , the male half has been around for a longer time in the name of “Kalki Bhagavan”… apparently the female half wanted in on the fetid glory showered on the male half by stupefied fools.

Propagating a preposterous and perverted philosophy of “Oneness”, all this “divine couple” and their group does is charge upwards of $5000 for their “oneness blessing” process trainings! (Damn! And here I am, having second thoughts about whether I should really pay $500 for my scrum master training! Life is strange!!)

And here’s the kill… from the FAQ page of the web site of the ‘university’ started by this… this… err… whatever

08. What is your response to the recent allegations against the movement?
We suggest that you follow your heart.

Yeah, follow your heart… fo..ll..ow.. yo..ur… he..ar..t! Nicely done! Couldn’t have thought of a better answer. Sounds like a Jedi from the Star Wars movies, doesn’t it? How else could they put the blame on the person if things went sour in the course of time for him/ her? “Hey! Your heart told you to join us! We didn’t! *shrug*”.

For those of you who would like to know more about these, head over to http://guruphiliac.blogspot.com, where you can find a lot of information on this group and more.

The 600 crore Shakti Amma

December 30, 2007 Ambi 6 comments

I have absolutely zero tolerance for the new age gurus who claim themselves and/or everybody to be God. Thirty-one year old Mr. Shakti Amma seems to be the latest addition to the list.

Claiming himself to be an ‘avatar’ (divine incarnation) of the ‘Narayani’ aspect, he has built a Rs.600 crore ($153 million) temple for Mahalakshmi (the consort of Lord Vishnu) and gilded the outside and insides of the temple with gold. The website of this new kid on the ‘I am a God’ block describes him as being capable of exhibiting mystical powers (siddhis) and that has done so many miracles.

*Sigh* As long as gullible people are around, these ‘avatars’ will never cease to manifest every now and then.

Obnoxiously obsessed

December 23, 2007 Ambi Leave a comment

I don’t usually watch much of the regional cable channels (thanks to Discovery, NatGeo, HBO, CNN etc…), but while browsing through the channels yesterday evening, the “Makkal” TV caught my attention. There was this guy singing in a voice that would rival any bulldozer and his troupe was playing some really horrible music, if I might add.

I was wondering why the hell would someone want to publicly humiliate himself (and others) and then the lyrics caught my attention. He was singing in praise of tamil, in tamil, while berating people about using the “Northern Language” (presumably Hindi/ sanskrit here).

Then it suddenly dawned on me… this was just another tamil obsessed idiot, being paid for self-humiliation by a channel run by cronies of an equally demented crackpot.

Honestly, people need to have better idea of of “ideologies”!
