Ummm… I am not a christian, though many have tried to make me ‘one of the flock’.

You have made a blanket assumption on religion being anti-intellectual, anti-rational and what not. But I am aware of a trend especially in westerners that when they speak of ‘RELIGION’, they basically talk about Christianity, Islam or Judaism. The eastern schools of thought are basically non-existent to them.

But… I do not see how your article is relevant to this discussion. Care to explain in simpler words for this simpleton?

check out http://www.oncaseren.wordpress.com for my own “modern” near death experience. Why do you say they’re probably not a “modern phenomenon”? Since having mine, I’ve heard lots of people’s stories about their own NDEs, not to mention that there’s plenty of books on the market that tell people’s “modern” NDE stories.

Then again, you are correct. It is only the jealousy and greed that drove this (and many other) society to ruin.

But I wonder, how did they ever actually introduce insecurity and inferiority complex?

I think more than that what they actually did was identify the true corrupted nature of the leaders of society (for instance, the warring and insecure kings and feudal lords), and in collusion with them, made the common people economically dependent on them.

But yes, I do see blind following of Western culture, which I do not like. It’s the blindness in emulation that I do not like, not that it is Western.

I am sorry that you had to go this experience. You should have done what I did.

When my parents sort of planned a visit there, I flatly refused to even go near that place.

The ‘amma’ is no different from so many popular personalities who claim themselves to be incarnations of Gods or Goddesses… they all finally end up becoming rich and flaunt it everywhere.
